Ole’ Jeb was a sheep farmer who was driving his huge herd from Idaho, through Nevada, and on the way to California back in the 1800s. He had stopped at the Ponderosa Ranch and was making plans for a hostile takeover. The Cartwrights owned the Ponderosa and they had a reputation of being kind, but unwavering.
One of his own men pulled a gun on ole’ Jeb and informed him that he was pulling out because he would not fight the Cartwrights for Jeb or anyone else. Ole Jeb bid the man good riddance. The man reholstered peacefully, turned around, and began to leave.
It was then that Ole Jeb shot the man in the back with a 12 gauge shotgun. Ole’ Jeb’s young protégé, Billy, was stunned at the apparent ruthlessness of it.
Ole Jeb turned to Billy and said: “you’ve got to learn to kill a man once you draw on him Billy”.
This short story was from an episode of “Bonanza“: An old western series that I used to watch.
I certainly wouldn’t agree with Ole’ Jeb’s application but there is something we can learn from him.
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.Matthew 11:12
Finish what you start
Recently I heard a dear man, who is very accomplished in his ministry, mention that several years ago he and his wife tried to help a prostitute straighten her life out. After profound deliverance ministry, the woman lived with this man and his wife in grace-filled freedom but then fell back into sin after just a couple of months.
In no way am not faulting the dear man who still felt deeply for that lost soul even after several years.
However, the point is if you want to be set free from all of the curses, trauma, rejection, shame, evil spirits, etc., etc., etc., that you have been plagued with, then you need to commit to it and be completely relentless until complete victory is achieved.
Many times people who are experiencing inner conflict will do “whatever it takes” to find some relief. They will then stop the healing process because they feel like they can at least breathe again.
When that occurs, often times the problem is not completely resolved and others still remain; even if below the surface. Sometimes the problems have just sort of gone into remission. When these kinds of things occur issues that have not been completely dealt with become doorways that allow the problems to return, which they often do, and often with a vengeance if not carefully kept in check.
You have to be willing and learn to violently attack a problem once you identify it. Thus our western wisdom from ole’ Jeb: “you’ve got to learn to kill a “problem” once you draw on it”.
In other words, if there are issues which are preventing you from fulfilling the calling that God has on your life, then find qualified assistance from someone you are comfortable with, and pursue your healing with a relentless fervor that refuses to be subdued.
Be passionately committed to going all the way; refusing to stop until the problem is 100% eradicated.
Yeshua made a way for you to experience healing so that you can walk in grace and fulfill the calling that He has waiting for you. His mission was to overcome evil in order to free you from oppression.
He did His part to set you free. Will you do yours?
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.Galations 6:9
